New Version of 'Great British Bake Off' Coming to Netflix
Good news (with a caveat), "Great British Bake Off" fans. Netflix has acquired the exclusive American rights to three new and future seasons of the addictive baking competition series.
It'll look a lot different, though, since those seasons will not feature original stars Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc, and Sue Perkins. In the U.K., after seven seasons, "Bake Off" switched from BBC to Channel 4 and introduced new hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding and new judge Prue Leith. Original judge Paul Hollywood remains with the revamped version.
To go with the U.K. channel switch, the show — titled "The Great British Baking Show" in the U.S. due to a copyright issue with Pillsbury" — is making the move from PBS to Netflix.
The streaming service has had a small backlog of "Bake Off" episodes, but only after they had previously aired on PBS. Now, they'll have sole and exclusive rights to the show.
Season 8, the first with the new line-up, will begin streaming Aug. 31 on Netflix. Season 9, which premieres in the U.K. on Aug. 28, will stream on Netflix later this year. And Season 10, yet to be filmed, will likely premiere and stream in 2019.
