New 'Walking Dead' Spinoff Series Casts 3 Young Leads
Meet "The Walking Dead: The Next Generation."
Three young actors have been cast as the first leads in the new spinoff series, which AMC ordered in April to join flagship "The Walking Dead" and the first spinoff "Fear the Walking Dead."
Alexa Mansour ("Unfriended: Dark Web"), Nicolas Cantu ("The Amazing World of Gumball"), and Hal Cumpston (Australian comedy "Bilched") will star in the 10-episode untitled drama.
The spinoff will feature two young female protagonists and "focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it,” according to a network description.
“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
Co-created by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of "The Walking Dead" universe, the spinoff will be run by Matt Negrete, who has been a writer and producer on flagship for the past five seasons.
Mansour starred in the horror film sequel "Unfriended: Dark Web" for Blumhouse Productions. Cantu has voiced roles on "The Amazing World of Gumball and "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker," as well as appearing in "The Good Place." Cumpston wrote, produced, and starred in the Australian coming-of-age comedy series "Bilched."
Production on the spinoff begins this summer in Virginia for a 2020 premiere.
