Does Cersei Lannister have a secret child -- a legitimate one?

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 is the final season, and it will premiere its six episodes next year. It remains to be seen how many theories will be proven true or false. The HBO series adapts George R.R. Martin's novels, but there have been several increasing differences over the years -- plus, the show has now outpaced the books. GRRM has two more books still to be printed, while the series is already finished writing its story.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) has been talking up the Season 8 finale, saying it ends the right way and all the pieces fit.

He told HuffPost he wrote a letter to the writers after he read the final script, saying "'I don’t think you could’ve done a better job at finishing this story.' To me, it was very satisfying but also very surprising and all the things that I was hoping for. It still made sense. It wasn’t like one of those where the killer is suddenly revealed in the last act and you go, 'Oh! I didn’t see that coming.' Here, they’ve done a really, really good job."

To some fans, one of the theories that kinda makes sense is that Gendry (Joe Dempsie) is the legitimate son of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

We already know Gendry is Robert's son, but supposedly the bastard son of Robert and one of his many side chicks.

But there are fan theories out there with arguments for a Gendry/Cersei connection. Winter Is Coming broke the theories down - including a possible hint in the Season 1 episode "The Kingsroad":

"Cersei visits Catelyn Stark during Catelyn’s vigil at the bedside of her son, Brandon, whom Jaime had attempted to murder. She offers her sympathies to Catelyn and speaks of her first born son, a 'black-haired beauty' who died shortly after his birth."

Maybe he didn't die?

There are more arguments, but also the counter-argument that Cersei being Gendry's mother would go against Maggy the Frog's prophecy that Cersei would only have three children. As far as we know, those are the three kids she had with her twin brother, Jaime Lannister -- Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen.

True or not, HuffPost asked Nikolaj about the theory:

HuffPost: Speaking of Joe Dempsie, we interviewed him last year and he said he could actually be Cersei’s legitimate son. Do you have thoughts on this theory?

Nikolaj: She’s been a busy bee, my dear sister. [Laughs] There are so many theories out there that you comment on one and then it takes on its own life. But, yes, I’ve heard that Gendry [pause] ... I think Joe just wanted to get on the throne and that’s why he’s putting it out there.

There are so many fan theories out there involving Lannisters, Targaryens, Baratheons, etc. As far as we know, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) now has the most "legitimte" claim to the Iron Throne, but he's not the type of guy to give two figs about that -- and neither is Gendry. Besides, with the White Walker fight for mankind ahead of them, sitting on that throne is the least of anyone's concerns. Except maybe Cersei. Everyone else seems ready to break the wheel.

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 starts next year, probably in May or June.
