Warning: Spoilers ahead from "Orange Is the New Black" Season 3.

TV is not real life but, technically, Netflix is not TV. So ... is Netflix real life? DON'T RUN FROM THE QUESTION, MATT MCGORRY! Poor "Orange Is the New Black" fans, because his character, Bennett, did a cowardly thing in Season 3, and anytime an actor/actress plays a character, he or she is treated like that character. This is good if you play someone cool that everyone loves, but not so good if that character does something that ticks people off. When that happens, you are pummeled online with tweet after tweet asking why you did something you never actually did. It's good to have a passionate audience, but not so good when it affects your real life in a negative way.

BuzzFeed did a story on how fans have harassed Matt because of Bennett's Season 3 storyline, where he leaves pregnant Daya hanging. Matt responded to the post by admitting that the fan reaction has upset him:

On Father's Day, Matt shared a photo with OITNB co-stars Dascha Polanco and Elizabeth Rodriguez and tried to cheekily set the record straight on who he is and is not:

Happy Fathers Day to all the real fathers out there! I am an actor and I play the fictional character John Bennett on the fictional television show entitled Orange Is The New Black. Here I am with actresses Dascha Polanco and Elizabeth Rodriguez who play make-believe mother-daughter characters named Dayanara and Aleida Diaz on the made up television program with me. They are not mother and Daughter in real life even though they and we play pretend characters that are sometimes even the opposite of who we are as real live people while not reflecting our real lives because it is not real. Moments before this photograph was taken I was even saying words that were written by another person, all the while pretending that my name was John Bennett and that his thoughts and actions were a result of my own brain! Weirdly, the words coming out of my mouth and the things I did in the story were not created by me at all! To make matters even more confusing, I am even dressed in fictional character John Bennett's costume (a costume is like fictional clothes) in this photograph that was taken on the television set and afterwards I went home to my apartment in New York City where I don't have a child because I'm not a father and have never worked in a prison and TV is not real life. #oitnb"

Haha. And yet, how sad that he'll probably continue to get "What the hell?!" tweets from fans who want answers from him on what the writers wrote for his character. But that's always how it works, as every villain and hero on TV could tell you. Not that Netflix is TV. Not really.
