Top 5 Ricky Gervais Moments From Golden Globes 2016
Ricky Gervais was back with a vengeance to host the Golden Globes last night and, as expected, he didn't spare anyone from his unique brand of mean humor. Here are five of his most memorable, or infamous, moments.
5. So That's Why Ben's Back on the Market...
When introducing "The Martian" star Matt Damon, Gervais referenced his famous, 20-year bromance with Ben Affleck (and the recent Affleck/Jennifer Garnet split), saying Damon is "the only person Ben Affleck has been faithful to."
4. Insulting the Audience
The host -- swigging beer like he just didn't care -- opened the show by calling the assembled A-lists, "you disgusting, pill-popping deviant scum."
3. Trump Truth
When it came time to introduce Latina actress presenters America Ferrera and Eva Longoria, Gervais noted they're "two people Trump can't wait to deport."
2. Mocking the Girl on Fire
Taking the opposite tone from Bradley Cooper (who offered to help female co-stars negotiate better salaries) Gervais mocked Jennifer Lawrence's plea for equal pay: "There were marches in the street, of nurses and factory workers saying: 'How the hell can a 25-year-old live on $52 million?'" True, she makes a bundle, but that's not the point, Ricky.
1. Gibson vs. Gervais
The most excruciatingly awkward moment came when Gervais had to introduce Mel Gibson, whom he'd famously skewered for his notorious drinking-and-driving incident from a few years back. After some fumbling about, and some (ahem) light barbs exchanged between the two, Gervais came back to the podium to drop an expletive-filled query referencing Gibson's infamous 2006 meltdown.
