'Serial' the Podcast Is Becoming a TV Show
The hit sensation "Serial" podcast is bringing true crime to your television.
The writing/producing/directing team of Chris Lord and Phil Miller ("21 Jump Street," "The Lego Movie") have optioned the rights to the podcast with Fox 21 Television Studio.
"Serial" — which is an offshoot of "This American Life," and produced by Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder — was the subject of watercooler talk across the country last year. The first season investigated the 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee over the course of 12 episodes. The show received many accolades, including a Peabody Award. Lord and Miller are reportedly big fans.
The TV series will follow the making of the podcast as it investigates another case in-depth. The producers will search for a writer to join the team, then shop it to networks and streaming services.
