You Can Learn How to Be a TV Writer From Shonda Rhimes Herself
Have you ever aspired to work as a writer for a television show like "Grey's Anatomy" or "Scandal"? Well, now's your chance to learn all about the craft from none other than the woman who created those smash series.
Shonda Rhimes, whose Shondaland production empire has ruled over ABC for more than a decade, is offering an online master class teaching television writing, in which she'll advise wannabe TV writers "how to create compelling characters, write a pilot, pitch your idea, be a showrunner, and build your career." Enrollees will also have access to Rhimes's "pilot scripts, pitch notes, and story bibles."
"I don't believe in the phrase 'aspiring writer,'" the producer says in an introductory video. "To me, it's just -- you're a writer. Go write."
Rhimes also advised those seeking out a career in the TV industry devote as little as 10 minutes per day to writing, and said she's seeking students who are as passionate about scripting television as she is.
"If you can think of any other thing you want to be almost as much as being a television writer -- anything -- go be it," she says in the video. "If you can't think of anything else, then welcome. You are one of us, you are of our people, and I cannot wait to meet you."
