It's the end of "The Affair" on Showtime.

The network has renewed the romantic drama for a fifth and final season. The show is currently airing Season 4, with the finale set to air August 19.

This is not a cancellation, but a conclusion, according to Showtime. Showrunner Sarah Treem will get a chance to end the story on her pre-planned terms.

"We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of 'The Affair's' subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity," said Gary Levine, president of programming at Showtime Networks.

"Sarah Treem has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season."

Season 4 has focused on the unknown whereabouts of Alison (Ruth Wilson), with exes Cole (Joshua Jackson) and Noah (Dominic West) teaming up to search for her. In flashbacks, Noah has followed ex-wife Helen (Maura Tierney) and their kids to Los Angeles where they live with Helen's boyfriend, Vic (Omar Metwally). Meanwhile, Cole and Alison still live in Long Island, though their lives remain intertwined through their daughter.

The final season is expected to air sometime in 2019.
