High-five to Tom Holland, whose second solo outing as Peter Parker just became the highest-grossing "Spider-Man" film of all time. (Adding Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio surely didn't hurt either.)

In its third weekend, "Spider-Man: Far From Home" was dethroned by "The Lion King," but still took in a solid $21 million domestically.

Globally, it's earned $970.9 million, meaning it'll cross the  $1 billion mark by next weekend, if not sooner.

To date, the movie has earned $319.8 million domestically, and  $651.1 million  internationally.  It's currently the fifth highest-grossing film of the year, but that's likely to change.

It's great news for the future of the Sony/Marvel Spidey films.  Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man, but the studio's with Marvel Studios allows Peter Parker  to appear in Disney-owned Marvel films. According to MovieWeb, the deal between the studios stipulated that this film needed to make $1 billion or more for their partnership to continue. Done and done.

Sam Raimi's first "Spider-Man," starring Tobey Maguire, is still the highest-grossing domestic entry of any adaptation. It earned $403.7 million back in 2002.
