Stephen Colbert Will Host the 2017 Emmys on CBS
CBS, which will broadcast the Emmy Awards this September, isn't wasting any time selecting the emcee for the occasion, tapping "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert for the high-profile gig.
The network The Late Late Show." (Corden will host the Grammys next month, however, which also air on CBS.) In a statement, CBS praised Colbert and promised an entertaining event.
"We're excited to kick off the new season and celebrate the top achievements in television with Stephen Colbert as host of the Primetime Emmys," said Jack Sussman, executive vice president of specials, music, and live events for CBS Entertainment. "Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we've seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. We look forward to honoring television's best while entertaining audiences with the creative energy and sharp comedy of Stephen Colbert."
In a statement of his own, Colbert provided a sneak peek of the kind of biting wit and timely political humor he'll no doubt bring to the broadcast.
"This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period," the host's statement said. "Both in person and around the globe."
The 69th Emmy Awards will air on CBS on September 17.
