'The Bachelor' 2017 Ratings Are Lowest for Any Finale to Date
Even "The Bachelor" Season 21 finale ratings are Team Raven. Bachelor Nick Viall got engaged to Vanessa Grimaldi in the Monday, May 13 finale, but fewer fans than ever watched the proposal play out.
TVLine just posted the Monday night ratings for ABC:
"The Bachelor drew 8.4 million total viewers and a 2.7 demo rating, rising 18 and 23 percent week-to-week (to season highs), but down 12 and 7 percent year-over-year to mark lows for a finale. After the Final Rose retained 7.8 mil/2.4."
So the finale was up in terms of Season 21 episodes, but down from past finales. For comparison, the 2016 finale with Ben Higgins reported 9.58 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The 2015 finale with Chris Soules had 9.68 million with a 2.8 rating. So we're not talking about a massive drop in ratings, or overall viewers, but this is the lowest yet for "The Bachelor" finale.
The producers teased Nick's "After the Final Rose" special as "historic" -- and it turns out that was because Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay met a few of her bachelors. But ABC is far from the days when 17.47 million people watched Jason Mesnick's much TOO dramatic "After the Final Rose" special in 2009. And it's unlikely the franchise will ever again see a high like"The Bachelor" Season 2 with Aaron Buerge, which reportedly started with 11 million viewers and ended with 25.9 million and a 11.9 rating.
Still, 8.4 million viewers and a 2.7 rating -- even with the "winner" spoiled so far in advance, as usual -- after 21 seasons is pretty darn impressive.
Rachel starts her journey as "The Bachelorette" on May 22.
