"The Big Bang Theory" cast, crew, and fans may have to say goodbye to the popular show soon, but in the meantime, there is cause for celebration: The comedy series recently took a longstanding record from "Cheers."

Now in its 12th season, "The Big Bang Theory" has reached production of its 276th episode. That makes it the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history, as the show announced via social media Wednesday. "Cheers" ran for 275 episodes before concluding in 1993.

The "Big Bang Theory" milestone was sweet indeed. The cast posed for a photo with a giant tray of cupcakes that spelled out "276."

To date, 272 of those 276 episodes have aired; the next new one will air on April 4. Then, after the series finale airs on May 16, there will be 279 episodes in total.

"The Big Bang Theory" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
