'The Boondocks' Is Getting a Reboot
"The Boondocks" is coming back to life.
A reboot of the beloved animated series, based on Aaron McGruder's comic strip, was announced by Sony Pictures Animation announced the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
The project is described as "a complete re-imagining of the beloved and wildly rebellious animated satire for this modern era." It will follow the adventures of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.
Adult Swim's "The Boondocks" animated series ran from 2005 to 2014. The fourth and final season was controversial as it was produced without the involvement of McGruder.
The creator will be involved with the reboot. In February, McGruder resurrected the comic strip to satirize America in 2019.
