Dating is horrific. Author Kristen Roupenian's New Yorker short story, "Cat Person," about that subject went viral on social media last December. And now, she's written a feature-length horror script that's been purchased by A24.

The company behind "Lady Bird" and "Room" made its first-ever spec acquisition of the screenplay by Roupenian, titled "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies." Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that like "Cat Person," it shows "heightened sensitivity to character development and social dynamics in a subversive way."

"Cat Person" was a sensation online and became one of the New Yorker's most-read short stories. Told from the point of a view of a college-age female student, it explores the dynamics between her and an older man as they embark on a romantic relationship. The story was incredibly timely, published during the height of the #MeToo movement, for its themes of toxic masculinity, bad sex, gender roles, and consent.
