As one of the fathers of "Fantastic Four" at Marvel comics, the legendary Stan Lee should have a pretty good idea why the latest film version bombed at the box office.

"It was probably because I didn’t have a cameo in it," he joked in an interview with Larry King's online show.

As eagle-eyed viewers know, Lee's popped up in bunch of Marvel movies, including the previous incarnation of "Fantastic Four" in 2004 when he played a mailman named Willie Lumpkin.

Last month's reboot, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan, not only flopped with audiences and critics, but the movie's director, Josh Trank, blasted his own film, suggesting that studio interference doomed the Marvel reboot.

“A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would’ve received great reviews,” he wrote on Twitter. “You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality though.”

Lee, who created "Fantastic Four" with Jack Kirby, noted, "They didn’t discuss the story with me" and admitted, "I haven’t seen it yet."

Asked by King whether studios are rushing to remake these films, Lee added, "That may be true, I don’t know."
