As the sun now stands, "The Great British Baking Show" is still airing Friday nights on PBS in the U.S. It's the third season PBS has shown, but the sixth for the series called "The Great British Bake-Off" in the U.K.

All six seasons to date have premiered in August in the U.K., from Series 1 in 2010 to Series 6 in 2015. This year's premiere was delayed, slightly, due to coverage of the summer Olympics, but the Independent just revealed that "Bake Off" Series 7 finally has a premiere date: Wednesday, August 24, 2016 on BBC One. As always, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood are the judges, with hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins providing innuendos and commentary.

What does this mean for U.S. viewers? Well, impatient U.S. fans can track down episodes on YouTube, including the first three seasons, which PBS has yet to air. When will the new season premiere on PBS? The current U.S. Season 3/U.K. Series 6, which airs its finale next Friday, August 12 on PBS, took nearly a year to cross the pond, premiering in July. But in 2015, PBS gave us Season 2/U.K. Series 4 in early September, and the previous year we got Season 1/Series 5 in late December 2014. Yeah, it's super confusing.

At least now the new seasons will be new to both the U.K. and the U.S., they'll just get to see them first, kind of like how "Downton Abbey" always premiered over there before showing up on PBS several months later.
