Word on the street is that Meghan McCain is unhappy on "The View," but as of now, ABC expects her to return for the upcoming season.

The Daily Beast reported Wednesday that the conservative co-host is "seriously considering calling it quits," citing sources close to McCain. CNN then followed up with a report of its own that quotes an anonymous senior network employee as saying McCain is "miserable" at ABC. Yet, despite such reports, ABC News said in a statement that it expects her to return.

"The co-hosts and 'The View' have had an incredible season and we expect them all back for an epic year ahead," ABC News said, per Variety.

McCain, the daughter of the late Senator John McCain, first started appearing on "The View" as a guest co-host before officially joining in 2017. She has frequently gone head-to-head on-camera with her liberal co-hosts and there have also been reports that she's been difficult behind-the-scenes, as both The Daily Beast and CNN note. It has reportedly taken an emotional toll. One source told The Daily Beast that McCain feels "so exhausted and defeated."

Whether or not the co-host is actually serious about quitting the show is still up for debate. While some of her friends have indicated that she's not sure if she wants to renew her contract, a TV exec connected to "The View" indicated to CNN that this could be a negotiation strategy. Whatever the case, it's clear ABC wants -- and expects -- to keep her.
