'Timeless' Season 3 Looks Very Unlikely, But Co-Creator Says a Movie Is Still Possible
There have been some high-profile TV show saves recently, but not every series has been so lucky. After being canceled by NBC in late June (for the second time no less), "Timeless" is still without a home.
Sony Pictures TV tried to bring the sci-fi drama to another network but was unsuccessful, Deadline reports. All hope isn't quite lost, but the actors' deals have now expired, according to the show's co-creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan. He gave fans a disappointing update via Twitter on Monday, warning fans that "it appears there will be no Season 3." That said, he did indicate a "Timeless" movie is still a possibility, if a somewhat remote one.
"Discussions still take place between @SPTV and @NBC about a possible 2 hour movie to conclude the #Timeless story," he wrote, "but there are considerable economic obstacles that make it an uncertainty."
As Ryan stressed, any continuation of "Timeless" is far from guaranteed. The good news is that we shouldn't be in limbo much longer at least. The co-creator indicated in another tweet that a decision could be made this week when asked by a fan if there would be a way to get closure if the movie doesn't come to fruition.
The idea of no continuation is definitely disappointing given that fans were left with some major questions unanswered after the Season 2 finale. It's not a fun position for them to be in, but at least there is at least one option left on the table. Here's hoping for good news soon.
Correction: This article previously stated that "Timeless" was canceled for the second time in May but has been since updated with the correct time frame.
