The Ultimate Star Wars Gift Guide for Kids
by Jesse Schedeen and Phil Pirrello
Another December, another Christmas full of Star Wars toys. This year, we've picked out the ten gifts most likely to please the youngling in your life this Christmas. And yes, one of them is a lightsaber.
'Star Wars: Lost Stars'
For younger readers interested in diving into the world of Star Wars outside the movies and TV series, Lucasfilm Press has a new series of YA novels ready for consumption. Claudia Gray's book revisits the events of the Original Trilogy through the eyes of two friends who find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict, a la “The Fox and the Hound.” Buy it here
Disney Infinity 3.0
While there’s no specific video game tie-in to “Force Awakens” this year, young gamers should get a kick out of the latest incarnation of Disney’s popular “toys to life” franchise. The starter set allows gamers to take control of Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano in a Clone Wars-era adventure, and a "Force Awakens"-themed expansion will be released the same day as the film. 20-inch Captain Phasma Figure
JAKKS is pretty much the go-to company for kids who want cheap, large and durable versions of their favorite Star Wars characters. This Captain Phasma figure looks good enough that even older collectors might want to consider owning it. Buy it here
'The Force Awakens' Mission Series Figures
This series adds a fun twist to Hasbro’s traditional lineup of 3.75-inch Star Wars figures. Each character comes with a removable set of armor based on different environments, like “Snow Mission Armor Finn” and (pictured) “Forest Mission Armor Chewbacca.” Buy it here
Kylo Ren Deluxe Electronic Lightsaber
Kylo Ren has the coolest lightsaber since Darth Maul, and no doubt many kids will want one of their own this holiday season. This saber not only lights up, it can be customized and combined with some of Hasbro’s other lightsaber toys. Buy it here
LEGO Star Wars: Poe’s X-Wing Fighter Kit
Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of LEGO sets hitting stores based on the new ships and speeders making their debut in "The Force Awakens." Our current favorite is this set depicting Poe Dameron’s distinct X-Wing. Buy it here
Remote-Controlled BB-8
While Sphero’s remote-controlled BB-8 is the hot-ticket Star Wars item this holiday, it’s a little pricey to be putting into the hands of younger Star Wars lovers. This Target-exclusive toy is half the price and looks to be designed more with durability in mind. And it doesn’t require a smartphone to control. Buy it here
'Darth Vader & Son'/'Vader’s Little Princess' Deluxe Box Set
Cartoonist Jeffrey Brown has created one of the most charming takes on the Star Wars mythos ever, thanks to these family-friendly books that portray the Dark Lord of the Sith as a loving-but-frazzled father. This set includes the first two books as well as a pair of exclusive art prints. Buy it here
'Star Wars: Rebels' Season 1
If your kids have grown bored of rewatching the Star Wars movies over and over, why not throw this animated TV series into the rotation? Rebels bridges the gap between "Sith" and "New Hope," and it’s a little more family-friendly than its darker cousin, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” Buy it here
