USA Pushes 'Shooter' Premiere to Fall After Baton Rouge Police Shooting
USA is once again pushing back the premiere date of its upcoming series "Shooter," this time delaying the show's debut until sometime this fall.
This is the second time that the cable network has moved the premiere date for the show, which stars Ryan Phillippe as a sniper and U.S. military veteran wrongfully accused of a crime. It was originally scheduled to debut on July 19, but last week was delayed until July 26 following the fatal shooting of five Dallas police officers by a sniper on July 7.
After another deadly police shooting -- this time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where three officers were killed this past weekend -- USA has decided to postpone the series indefinitely, waiting until the fall to premiere the 10-episode series, which will remain in production in the meantime. A USA spokesperson said last week that the original premiere date move was made "out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers."
"Shooter" is based on the 2007 Mark Wahlberg series of the same name, which was itself adapted from the novel "Point of Impact" by Stephen Hunter. According to Variety, USA is mulling changing the name of the series before it debuts.
No official replacement airdate has been announced yet.
