VH1 Rescues 'America's Next Top Model' From Cancellation
"America's Next Top Model" is the latest show to be saved from cancellation hell. VH1 is picking up the reality series, which was axed by The CW after 22 seasons.
"Top Model" will return for a 14-episode new season, but for the first time, without host Tyra Banks. She will stay on as an executive producer alongside Ken Mok, who runs the show. VH1 said they wanted "Top Model" to be "reinvented for a new generation."
"After creating an incredible, global brand, I am beyond excited to have the show reborn," Banks said in a statement. "I will continue as Executive Producer, but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host. I'm pumped to identify that person and bring back the show. Top Model fans, you demanded that the show come back, and VH1 answered the call. Get ready for a fierce-a-fied rebirth!"
"Top Model" debuted in 2003 on the now defunct UPN, then moved to the nascent CW. It was the longest running on that network when it was canceled. The series has spun off versions in more than 30 countries, and appeals to young viewers 18-34, which is VH1's core audience.
