Only two weeks into its sophomore outing, HBO has decided to renew hit series "Westworld" for a third season.

In announcing the renewal, HBO programming president Casey Bloys praised the twisty sci-fi drama for its ingenuity, and vouched for its future on the premium cable outlet.

"It's been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented [executive producers] Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew," Bloys said in a statement. "From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us."

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, it's currently unclear when season three is expected to premiere, since more than a year elapsed between the end of season one in October of 2016 and the beginning of season two in late April of this year. That large gap was to allow Nolan and Joy time to finish writing before production began, in an effort to avoid repeating the delays that marred production on the show's freshman season.

Whatever complications went on behind the scenes seemed to have no effect on "Westworld," though, with the show scoring big with critics and fans alike. HBO, soon saying goodbye to "Game of Thrones," is no doubt eager to keep another buzzy series on the air as long as possible.

Season two of "Westworld" is airing now on HBO.
