12 Things You (Probably) Don't Know About Will Arnett
Funny man Will Arnett had high hopes for a career in film. However, the successful actor never pictured his success to be built on a foundation of comedy. Here are 12 things you probably don't know about the star of "The LEGO Batman Movie."
1. Early Days
Arnett was born May 4, 1970, in Toronto, Canada to mother Edith and Harvard-graduate father Emerson.
2. Sweet Talker
Arnett is fluent in French and even attended French-speaking schools growing up in Toronto.
3. Grade-A Voiceovers
If you feel like Arnett is trying to sell you something when you hear his voice, you might be on to something. When he isn't busy on screen, the actor does voiceover work for GMC trucks, as well as Lamisil tablets.
4. Abnormal Arrangement
The native Canadian once played the brother to then real-life wife Amy Poehler in the 2007 comedy “Blades of Glory.” Pretty weird, yeah?
5. Beer Me
Arnett's dad was the CEO of Molson Breweries in Canada, which merged with Coors in 2005 to become the seventh-largest brewing company in the World. Umm, can you say cha-ching?
6. Gamer Life
Arnett is obsessed with playing Xbox.
7. Staying to the Side
Arnett thinks having the leading role in a feature film is boring! "The problem with leading roles is that they’re boring," he told ShortList Magazine. "What I want is a leading man who's still central but more of a goof. That doesn't exist. But I'll find it."
8. Manwich Man
Before Arnett got his big start in film, one of his first on-screen gigs was a 1987 Manwich commercial.
9. Troublemaker
Arnett was low-key known for getting caught smoking at school. "I was constantly caught smoking," he's said. "You had to chop wood if you got caught smoking, so I was always chopping wood." Turns out, it was his mother who encouraged him to channel his desire to smoke into acting. Good call, mom.
10. Amicable Split
After nearly 10 years of marriage, Arnett and Poehler called it quits. Thankfully, they remain on good terms. The ex-couple has two children, Archie and Abel.
11. Change of Plans
Arnett never really planned on being the "funny guy" in film. He moved to New York at a young age to pursue dramatic, serious acting roles. When it came time to pay the bills, he took what he could get ... and it turns out he was really good at it!
12. Bale-Spiration
Arnett has admitted to using Christian Bale's Batman voice as inspiration for his voiceover work in "The LEGO Batman Movie." He recently said in an interview, "You know how Christian Bale talks like this? In a low tone? They had to amplify his voice, I guess, because it was very low and soft," he told Huffington Post. "So I wanted to take that and just have Batman talk in that voice all the time." Source: IMDB, Ranker
